First Successful Victory of CEDAW in “Rape Case” Women Movement

CEDAW Watch Philippines aims to promote women’s human rights. Women won a historic victory in the Philippines when the first rape case was decided under CEDAW (Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women). The UN committee ruled that the Philippines government violated the rights of a rape survivor whose case was dismissed based on “gender-based myths and stereotypes.”

Filipino-American Thia Megia Enters Top 13 Finalists in American Idol

Thia Megia, 15-year old singer from California  won the hearts of the American public and collected enough votes to continue her quest of becoming the next American Idol.

She delivered a powerful perfomance of the the song “Out Here On My Own”, Wednesday night. Last night, Thia was proclaimed as one of the 13 finalists of the talent search after the votes from the show’s viewers were tallied.

“You sang Out Here on My Own. Steven was blown away by your perfect pitch. Jennifer loved it,” American Idol host Ryan Seacrest said as he delivered the results to the teenager.
